The Technology of Today’s Classroom

Have you ever taken the time to consider how much technology can be found in an ordinary classroom that is functioning right now, all over the modern world?  In just the ordinary classroom that most students go to, there are all kinds of connectivity devices that only a few years ago would have been considered unheard of to most people who were not James Bond.  It has become easier than ever before for the average student to get online classes, no matter where they are, which makes the world far easier to understand because of what they can look up, and who they can talk to.  Some traditions would seem to be going by the wayside.

For one thing, the old fashioned notion of asking your teacher a question about something is becoming less and less useful.  After all, who could possibly know more than the Internet knows about practically anything?  And considering how into the lecture most teachers get, it would almost seem disrespectful to interrupt their flow.  Maybe one day the “teacher” concept can simply be replaced by letting the students get online with some degree of guidance behind their inevitable searches- rather like a virtual Montessori program.  Anything can be looked up, so why shouldn’t everything be?

Another thing that has changed about the classroom is that students can communicate with one another to a degree of efficiency that would have made any military organization of World War II green with envy.  Consider that the students can update their social media, text each other and communicate with their friends outside of class in a whole bunch of ways, without ever leaving their seats.  Other than the teacher having everyone “check their iron” at the door by depositing their devices into a basket of some kind, there is really not going to be a way to stop this from occurring as it will, either.
